The Tip Of Borneo is the northern most land area or in this case, rocks along the coast of the Borneo Island. It is located at Tanjung Simpang Mengayau, which is about 30 minutes drive from Kudat town. This is the point where the South China Sea met with the Sulu Sea. This is a secluded area and is a good place for those seeking a beautiful and peaceful beaches and sea with some rocky landscape. There is also a small cliff at the end of the tip which has a spectacular view of the vast open ocean. However, beside from the beaches, there is nothing much to do here except to enjoy the unique landscape especially during the sunrise or sunset (here you can enjoy the sun rises and also setting at the same location as the land area is protruded into the sea). Visiting this place during your Sabah, Borneo vacation will also give you the right to say that you have reach the tip or the northern most part of Borneo Island.

Tanjung Simpang Mengayau in which the Tip of Borneo is located, used to be a forsaken and deserted beach until the state government started to market this area by promoting the fact that the tip of Borneo Island is located here. To encourage visitors here during their Sabah, Borneo Vacation, the Sabah State Government had developed the area around the tip into a beautiful park with fencing and some lookout places and benches for tourists to relax and enjoy the beautiful scenery and surrounding. There is also a big bronze globe which has become synonym with this area and has been a favorite with photographers.

There are also some information boards that have been set up to inform visitors of the place rich and interesting historical past. From the information boards, you will know that this place used to be an important look out point for the villagers living here for the arrival of pirates or other enemy. There is also a war here between the Rungus people who live here with their enemy. It is also said that the fleet of Ferdinand Magellan on their voyage around the world has made a stopped here for the maintenance of their fleet.

Getting There: The Tip of Borneo is located in Tanjung Simpang Mengayau in the Kudat Penisular. It is about 134 miles(215 km) from the city center of Kota Kinabalu or about 12 miles(20 km) from Kudat town. The road journey from KK city to here will take about 3 hours depending on your driving speed. Some stretches of the roads near the area is quite bad as it is still under maintenance/upgrading process. The best way to enjoy this place is to stay overnight here at the chalets, homestays or resorts nearby so that you can enjoy the peace, serenity and beauty of the place.
